Learn about Ancestral Dance practices, Magick Passes, and Moving Meditations,
from different traditions around the world!

Dance for the Spirit is a safe and protected space where we practice deep reconnection through movement meditation and ancestral dance forms,  to release blocks and stagnant energies, and tune back into our flow, through the magick of our-own movement.

Dance for the Spirit was actually my very first therapeutic & spiritual project, and it's rooted deeply in my heart.
It was created way back then (circa 2003), when I was devoted to dancing for a living -gypsy and middle eastern/oriental dances mostly, and literally traveling around as a gypsy dancer. Since then, Dance for the Spirit became the name of the greater project that enclosed my music & dance performing, and my Sacred Art-Movement-Therapy workshops.

I am deeply honored and excited to be finally integrating this work within The Nomad Lynx Academy, where the focus now will be much more on the Art-Movement-Therapy, Moving Meditation, and the Magick of Movement side of the project, which is actually its roots, rather than the nomad/gypsy dance styles and techniques that I also enjoy sharing. But it all comes together!

In a typical Primal Movement Meditations workshops, we:

ϧ Take our time to practice a series of thorough warm-up and stretching exercises, to tune into your own body and flow, and really enjoy the movement of our body.

ϧ Learn about the origins and practice of different forms of dance and moving meditations from around the world, in a safe, creative, and therapeutic environment.

ϧ Explore our very own movement through improvisation and creative expression exercises.

ϧ Learn and practice different forms of group/circular dances from around the world.

Dance for the Spirit
Origins and Roots

My first approach to dance, as many other people around the world, was those yearly school presentations, (which I loved by the way! I remember doing some Hawaiian at age 5, and also a failed attempt at ballet around that same age). Later on, when I was 15 years old, I discovered Flamenco in a local Arts and Culture Center in Mexico, and it became my dance amateur passion.

I then started getting more seriously involved in gypsy. mediterranean, middle eastern, and oriental music and dance back in 1999, when invited to join a traditional Greek Music Ensemble in Mexico City, called The Argonauts, directed by Dimitri Yanisis and Rodrigo Santoyo, as the main dancer! In that case, it was specifically Greek traditional music and dances, but in some of their songs they would allow me to interpret freely as I learned.

Curiously enough, t
his invitation took place during a series of legendary open rehearsals the band used to hold from its beginnings, where they would invite their friends to their rehearsals, and start a party from there. So during those days, the band met my most spontaneous free dance, just from what their music inspired and woke up in me, and they somehow saw something I didn't even know of, and oficially invited me to work with them! Thus, teaching me all the different rythms and musical structures of their repertoire, teaching me how to play the zills (finger cymbals) and other hand percussions, as well as some traditional greek circle dances. I started joining all of the band's private rehearsals and learning the repertoire, and I was one more of them! I became their zills player and main dancer for about a year and learned a lot from them. I cherish these memories greatly and send them all big loads of love around the world wherever they all are now, since we all keep traveling!

I also started taking "belly-dance" lessons at first, and then learning and researching deeper into Middle Eastern and Gypsy Dances. So we later created an Egyptian Percussion Ensemble, with some members from that band, and here's the one picture that I have from those days...

Around that time, I also got to live in Malaysia for a few months with my parents, and I had the opportunity to study Odissi (a traditional Temple Dance form) in the Indian Fine Arts Temple of Kuala Lumpur for 4 months, as well as some native tribe's ceremonial dances from deep in the jungle in Borneo, as well as other places in South East Asia while I lived in the area, and
these experiences opened up new level of devotion in my dance practice.

In 2003 I started teaching my first Raqs Sharki lessons by demand! (groups of women would just organize themselves to host my workshops in different spots), and ever since then I always focused my practice and teaching on the therapeutic benefits of dance and moving meditation, more than on any particular dance style, and thus creating the concept of Dance for the Spirit, as an outlet to create and share special workshops about different ancestral dance styles and modern fusions, as well as timeless movement meditations and healing practices.

Dance is a powerful way of transmuting energy within you, and it also ripples to the outside, creating changes in the environment, and the people around us.

My workshops are now specialized in deep Reconnecting Movement Therapy, aiming to release personal blocks and stagnant energies, and free ourselves from limiting patterns and beliefs, by tuning back into our-own Free-flow Expression. They are not technically "dance" lessons, but rather a space for healing, reconnecting, and transmuting energy through movement.
